Luiza Budea
Artist Statement & Bio
As a Ridgefield resident, Luiza fell in love with the community and became involved in organizing a series of art shows through Ridgefield Art on Main. She is a firm believer that art can and should be universally experienced through prevalent public presence. Consequently, she began gracing Main Street with some much-appreciated examples of public art, rendered in the most ephemeral of materials: sidewalk chalk - a medium that fades with each footstep and raindrop leaving behind only memories. Fond memories, we hope.
Luiza believes that art is not just for looking at - but that art is intended to do something. Have a daily practice with internal purpose. Her artistic practice centers around endless patterns that are inherent in nature and therefore universal. It is also a tool she has used since childhood to train her focus. She uses uncommon techniques in her practice, like mixing her own egg tempera paints or using pen & ink in a manner akin to weaving or textiles, by overlaying meshes of different colors. She plays with rough and fine textures, velvety and reflective surfaces, fluorescence, and the look of raw support materials such as cardboard, chipboard, concrete, particleboard, cork.
Luiza is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Art and has lived in New York City for nearly two decades prior to moving to Ridgefield.
