Melissa Benedek
Artist Statement
What I love about art!
When a piece of art is viewed by an observer, they may have a different perception of the piece, than I do. I feel an artist needs to allow the observer to go on their own journey and explore how they connect and perceive a piece of art, and what it means to them. The interpretation is in the eye of the beholder.
What I see, is for my eyes to see only….
And what you see, is for you alone!
Artist Bio
Melissa Benedek is a contemporary artist who finds beauty, solace and magic in abstract creations. Born and raised in New York City, she was introduced to art a very early age. Her father owned an gallery in Soho and her mother, an Interior Designer, curated various shows. Given this combination, it was only natural that Melissa developed a true passion for art and design as well as an intimate understanding of how they influence and inspire us.
Melissa studied at The Arts Student’s League and Parson’s School of Design. Following her studies, she started a career as a jewelry and accessories Buyer. She was always drawn to anything unique and beautiful and enjoyed seeking out new and talented designers.
After meeting with great success as a Buyer, she decided to start her own business. Her love for color combinations, textures and design led her to becoming a Jewelry Designer. She created her own jewelry line and had a following amongst celebrities and high profile business women.
Melissa’s direction today is based solely on her artwork. Her portfolio demonstrates her passion for colors and textures. Her art features fluid brushstrokes that intersect, overlap and react with one another. This technique makes her pieces pop and come alive. She believes abstract art has no standard interpretation allowing the viewer to have their own thoughts and feelings about a piece.
