The gallery is celebrating it's one year anniversary of opening it's doors on Main Street this September! How we all see and experience 2020 is unique, come and visit how our Artists translate their experiences. We're so grateful to be able to share all of our wonderfully talented Resident Artists and Featured Artists with the community of Ridgefield! We would not be where we are today without the love and support from our artists, our staff and the community.
Lydia Larson was born in Pompton Plains, New Jersey in 1987. Growing up as an American nomad, art making was a means of documenting the constant changes of her surroundings. In 2011, Lydia went on to receive her MFA from Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has since been involved in residencies and research in the Netherlands, Italy, India, Hawaii, Japan, and Hungary. Lydia is an alumni of Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. In 2014, she became a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. She was awarded a second grant, in 2019. Lydia has exhibited across the United States and Internationally. Her studio is in a historic factory building in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Frankie Vinci's Rock 'n' Roll journey has led him to create the Pop Art he’s so passionate about today. These raw-colorful Pop Art / Mixed Media pieces are reflective of his years as a troubadour and his Rock 'n' Roll experiences performing in the iconic clubs and concert halls from NYC to LA , all of this has become part of his tapestry as a Pop Artist.
Frankie is a Multi-Platinum songwriter / recording artist and has shared the stage and or worked in the recording studio alongside iconic names such as : Aerosmith, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tim McGraw, Roberta Flack, Dino Danelli & Gene Cornish (Rascals), Wally Bryson (Raspberries), Ricky Byrd (Joan Jett, Roger Daltrey), Robert Lamm (Chicago), Phil Ramone, Eddie Kramer, etc...
Frankie’s Pop Art is inspired by music, fashion, film and the vintage billboards that have been distressed by weather and time. The multi-layered backstage passes, concert posters covering the dark alleys and backstage walls in Rock clubs like CBGB’s, all add fire to Frankie's creativity. Frankie’s artful eye sees the beauty in subway graffiti, random paint drips, metal rust, torn paper, combined with detailed painting and carefully composed layouts. His flair for color combinations and the placement of iconic images over his canvases is creating a buzz in the art community.
We started the new year by hosting Emily Hamilton Laux and her wonderful collection of botanical and floral photography. This was one of the gallery's most bright and vibrant exhibitions yet! Emily was our first ever photographer to be a featured artist at the gallery.
RPAC Gallery participated in the annual Holiday Stroll on Main Street with some arts and crafts as well as hosting the Ridgefield Suzuki School advanced violin ensemble!
We were also accepting donations for the Make A Wish Foundation in which for $1 you got to decorate a tag that we put up on the gallery Christmas tree!
We featured Ken Scaglia, an incredible photorealist painter and professor at West Conn University. His collection of photorealistic oil paintings of classic and vintage cars blew people away. They caught the eye of many people walking on the street and were appreciated by art lovers and car enthusiasts alike!
We invited the community to come join us in "Throwing Happiness" to create some beautiful pieces of artwork which were then put to auction with all the proceeds going to Ability Beyond! Through a method used by Meredith Mulhearn, one of our Resident Artists, in which you throw colorful pigment powder with an adhesive coating on a canvas, together we created 3 wonderful pieces of art!
Ability Beyond's groundbreaking programs in community job training and placement, supported living, and recreational and educational enrichment, they empower the individuals they serve to live full and rewarding lives. They are always going beyond – to ensure that the people they serve well into the future have a place to call home, enjoy independence through work, and have a forever home where they can age with dignity.
